Comic Collab Project

Posted by AlmightyHans Oct. 30, 2007 @ 2:45 AM EDT

title:ONE SHOTthe Comic Collab

-note: Not a web comic, but a PRINTED comic-

Basically this book will be about 30 pages long, and my goal is to collect 25 artist or so to fill in those pages. Each artist has their own page to do whatever they want on (one page not meaning front and back, just one side of a page). In the back pages of the comic I'll add an index with the Authors name, age, sex, location, and maybe a comment from the author about his drawing or anything at all.

Many aspects of this project resemble the NG sketchbook tour, but this will be printed on actual traditional comic book. Another difference is the fact that a comic or a strip or any resemblance of a panel-to-panel short story telling is extremely encouraged, not mandatory, but really really encouraged.

Keep in mind that a full short story from begining to end isn't manditory, it can be an extract of a hypothetical comic book, action sequence, simple dialouge sequence even a bunch of sequencial panels setting an enviornment with even the smallest narrative element.

Anyone can apply but not everyone will be selected. Anyone interested should send me an email to

oddhvh@hotmail.com

DISTRIBUTION DETAILS

I will be in charge of paying for the prints. The artists will receive their own free copy. Each comic will cost $5.00 each. There will be 2 ways of comic distribution:

1. There will be a store available on my site (which is currently under construction and will be done late november) where comics wll be purchasable through paypal. I figured this would work better for people interested outside of the United States.

2. Comics will be available in random stores in the San Francisco Bay area, and Albuquerque, New Mexico

3. I'll be at Comic Con 2008, hopefully i'll be not only selling those, but also other comics there.

COMIC DETAILS

-Standard Comic (6.625x10.25 inches)
-Color pages
-28 pages

WHAT I'LL NEED FROM YOU

-real name (first and last)
and/or
-nick name (a.k.a. on newgrounds)
-age
-sex
-location
-comments
-example illustrated artwork (preferably not animated)

I would prefer if you turn in your art work already in it's 6.625"x10.25" proportions, if you're having too much trouble we can talk about it and I'll just resize it myself. All finished work should be emailed to oddhvh@hotmail.com. make the subject of your email:

"(name)-DONE"

There is no defnite due date yet since the project is at a very early stage. Also, I want to give the artists time to really create the best artwork they can possibly make. The final date will most likely land somwhere between April and May but the artwork would just make things easier for me (the sooner the better).

NOTE:

-

HEADS UP:

My web site (HaVaHa) is currently being remade and the ODD Comics section is becomming somthing very special. Atomic Noodle and I are talking about designing a Comic portal where people can submit short comic strips and be voted on, very similar to the NG flash portal, it is currently dubbed "Brick Wall".

The 6 weekly winners will be on the "TOP PAGE" and the seasonal winners will have the chance to develope their comic into a full issue. So be aware when you submit a strip or page pitching your idea, just in case you win, that idea needs to be somthing than can be applied to a full issue.

This will help push the creativity of the artists. Submiters must have a clear idea in their head to later on expand onto an issue if winning. I feel that this is becomming somthing very exciting, already loads of talent is applying to the ONE SHOT cloab project. I wonder what somthing like the Brick Wall (BW) will recieve.

-HVH

p.s. just felt like adding in a little screen shot i made for this animated banner i made for the soon to be completed revamped version of my site havaha.com.

Actually, I'd say you're starting to become pretty well known about these parts, man. While your Halo short annoyed me, as did aspects of your Animation Invasion, I a have honestly been impressed by some of your work, including Valentine '29, which was a pretty unique and quality collab for the most part. You've also proven yourself quite the capable animator.
But the humility is very appreciated, and earns you respect.

The project sounds very interesting and, while I don't have the time (or any ideas) for a part, I look forward to following it and seeing where it goes.

Oct. 31, 2007 | 1:43 AM AlmightyHans responds:

well thanks for the support. What exactly annoyed you about the Halo short? and what exactly do you mean "the humility is very appreciated"? just curiouse. But it's too bad you don't have time, your stuff is really interesting to me. Maybe next time i guess. :/

Oct. 30, 2007 | 7:44 AM Fleabus says:

Wow how did you get your own comic book publishing place?

and like the other guy said you are actully becoming quite well known especily with that halo thing coming (ahaha i bet ur exahusted from that and gl with that)

i wont be joining btw but id like to see how this comes about :)

Oct. 31, 2007 | 1:44 AM AlmightyHans responds:

With some money saving, a lawyer, and paperwork.

Oct. 30, 2007 | 10:51 AM Osuka says:

this looks really interesting, save a spot for me and for "Zaghawa"

Oct. 31, 2007 | 1:44 AM AlmightyHans responds:

ok :P

Nov. 1, 2007 | 3:23 AM squeakytoad says:

The "humility is really appreciated" was me saying how refreshing it was to see an animator around here who didn't think he was king of the world because he was getting popular (even I have been guilty of that).

The Halo thing... hmmm... I like parodies, but I don't really appreciate ones that go for all the obvious punches. That's kind of what it seemed with your Halo one. It was already short, but combined with the easy jokes (everyone, really, has thought of "What if a marine survived?" or "Wish he would close the door on that guy!").
It's nothing against you, I just appreciate parodies with deeper humor.

As for the Animation Invasion, I wrote a review of what I thought. I regret that now though, as that was way too harsh.
Still kinda embarrassing that I got that upset over something so trivial. I think a lot of it had to do with your author comments and with people's reaction. Either way, kind of ridiculous to rant like that about it.
That was about a year ago though, and I was pretty stupid back then.
My apologies.

Nov. 2, 2007 | 1:08 AM AlmightyHans responds:

haha no apologies necessary don't be silly. but i see your point. as for the halo thing, to let readers know, i have showed you my progress on halo and the BETA was showing just some average joking, the rest of the movie doesn't contain such obviouse stuff. I figured to save the best for the actual movie.

anyways, thanks for the comments squeak.

Nov. 9, 2007 | 10:13 PM deal-with-it says:

I've liked all your stuff so far, and I can't wait for "It's a Halo Thing"... and every now and then I re-visit Pico's Blam Jam, and seriously, you have the best made up Pico voice EVER. Seriously. EVER.

Nov. 12, 2007 | 1:11 AM Too-Demonsional says:

Dude! Hurry up with "Its a Halo Thing"! Us halo addicts need our fix! Halo is our cocaine and parodies are our crack to the cocaine!

Nov. 14, 2007 | 4:35 PM Senri says:

I'll be joining. This sounds so cool.
I'm pming you the info now.

Nov. 14, 2007 | 4:56 PM EvilSeed says:

very interesting, but i still dont understand how it will be put togheter, you mean, every artist will do whatever they want and no matter what the others will do??, since its a comic book, i thought it needed all the artist to draw the same sequence/story/plot/whatever, dunno if im clear enough with that....

i dunno if i will be able to enter (maybe i want, but probably i cant)... just for curiosity , go check my userpage...something like that could work or is it what youre looking for??

Nov. 14, 2007 | 5:13 PM subzero90 says:

I have a good idea for one it's about newgrounds you could have a make belive charcter walking in the city of newgrounds sometimes visiting COCK HQ or the swain.com meeting popular ng characters and such and he will confront problems when he tries to break in the mature section casue he accidentaly set his age below legal porn level( I dunno if there is one for ng) or KK is taking revenge on all NGr's ecpecially tom fulp for kill all those kk flashes, orthis imaginary char could fight bizzaro tom or waldeolf hitler, and maybe menition some flashes I will email you a pitch if you want it will take some time to finish the panels though and im an ok drawer i can do good VP's and I can draw hands very good!~ Ill PM u my email if u like the idea

Nov. 14, 2007 | 5:14 PM subzero90 says:

NOt cock hq clock sorry typo home position is too fast

Nov. 14, 2007 | 5:32 PM SWiTCH says:

I understand that this will be an actual comic book, but will you submit a digital version to NG as well?

Nov. 14, 2007 | 11:09 PM AlmightyHans responds:

that's sort of an idea, maybe not the complete thing but some previews, and since its usually annoying to just see previews on newgrounds. They will probably be previewed on my website and such. again, they will be sold around few areas in the USA but mainly online. the whole idea is to start off the comic book business and make an NG artist frendly project. I want to avoid web comic as much as possible because the whole idea is the tangeble material comic book presentation that makes this project special.

Nov. 14, 2007 | 5:43 PM irrelivent says:

Cool. I'd love to get something in there. Should we show you some drawings before hand (you know, just to show that we don't suck), or just get working on the strip?

Nov. 14, 2007 | 5:47 PM wolfmaydie says:

ha,thats a great idea.will it be an ACTUALL comic,or just a web comic?

Nov. 14, 2007 | 11:09 PM AlmightyHans responds:

actual comic

Nov. 14, 2007 | 5:48 PM SeizureDog says:

Some questions:

1: Have you ever published anything else before? What are your credentials?
2: Are you wanting a particular format for the files?
3: Any content restrictions? (nudity, language, etc.)
4: "a comic or a strip or any resemblance of a panel-to-panel short story telling is extremely encouraged" - just to get this straight, are you looking for 28 independant short works, or for us to work together on one story?

Nov. 14, 2007 | 11:36 PM AlmightyHans responds:

1: This is the first project for the new copy righted Publishing company "ODD Comics"
2: .jpg, .png ".png" would be preferable, the highest possible quality.
3: Content ristrictions: no hentai, yaoi, inflation, or any of that sort. Skimpy outfits partial nudity is all up for the artist in it's design but no sex THEMED or focus art. (for all those dick joke obsessed newgrounders, homosexuality is ok :P)
4: no story correction, each person has their own page to express anything they want in comic form, anyway they want fitting into their page.

Nov. 14, 2007 | 6:41 PM Games-And-Gigs says:

Well, this sounds like a lot of fun :D My drawing is so-so (although, it sucks for an animator :P) and this could be cool... Good publicity too, I'd think.

I like the whole idea of it - leave a spot for Games-And-Gigs, you can email me anytime about it if you wanna discuss ideas or want to get my info before we start (I'm always on it... xD)

I'd prefer it if you could use one of the business contacts listed on my website, just so I don't have to root through my Hotmail accounts spam box and such to find it.

Hope to work with you soon!

Nov. 14, 2007 | 6:42 PM jackbliss says:

Hi Hans! I gotta say you are not only more popular than you think, but one of the most inspiring Flash artists I know. Your 'Animation Invasion' is truly mind blowing stuff for anyone to make leave alone a 17 year old! Infact I was so inspired by it that I showed a number of my friends in film making class and I thanked you in the credits of my own Flash Movie 'A PiCO Story' :-)

Sorry I can't take part in this awesome comic book project you're working on, because I live in India, but I DO wish you the very best of luck on your venture and just keep going kid cause one day you're gonna wake up and be rich and famous! :-D

Nov. 14, 2007 | 7:57 PM bomarc says:

Sweet! I'm also working on a comic book, and I'm going to use that extra exposure. I'll help out.

-Ray N. (bomarc)

Nov. 14, 2007 | 8:16 PM PunchOrBePunched says:

You missed some important specifics:
Copyright details on our charactors and stories?
CMYK or RGB color?
Live, Trim, and Bleed area specs?
DPI?
File types accepted?
28 front/back pages or just 28 pages?

I mean that is major stuff that needs to be addressed and should be available even the early stages of a project like this. Sorry for seeming so skeptical, but your profile says you are 17.

Nov. 15, 2007 | 4:18 AM AlmightyHans responds:

yeah, being 17 is somthing you should have expected being on newgrounds. I honestly don't think that should be any reason what so ever to actually make you believe that this will not happen or such. ODD Comics is an official Publisher now and all i'm doing is giving NG artists a chance to expose there work as a comic. Being that I adore the presentation and the all around aspects of comics has encouraged me to start working with them. Knowing that I'm not alone out there, dreaming to have my ideas in the form of professional comic, this project is only the first of what I plan on making ODD Comics.

so basically, if you aren't interested in the project. I would suggest you not write anything at all. The lack of specifications in the topic is intentional in the aspect that I'm giving an idea of what it's all about. any specifications needed could just be personally asked through PMing me.

in short. don't break balls, man.

Nov. 14, 2007 | 8:16 PM Perry says:

Ok so you want us to do a single page? I would join and do one tonight but you blocked me D:, or changed your email

Nov. 14, 2007 | 11:49 PM AlmightyHans responds:

haha sry changed email...

Nov. 14, 2007 | 8:49 PM MasterOfFlash says:

This is really really sweet!

If you need anyone to join in, I'm totally down for it. Just PM me with any specific info such as dimensions (Letter size im assuming), as well as color options and other needed pieces of informations.

HOPE TO BE ABLE TO JOIN!

Nov. 14, 2007 | 9:20 PM Tystarr says:

I'm very interested also but I need to know a little more about this, and I really think you should charge people to be a part of the book.

Nov. 15, 2007 | 4:20 AM AlmightyHans responds:

no, this is a chargless project, free. each artist who's work will be in the book will recieve their own personal copy. with a nice plastic case and such :P for everyone else... $5 a peice.

Nov. 14, 2007 | 11:14 PM PinkSkull says:

Well, I'm interested, but I need a little bit more of info....

Nov. 15, 2007 | 4:21 AM AlmightyHans responds:

pm me or (preferably) email me at oddhvh@hotmail--- for exactly what questions you had in mind.

Nov. 15, 2007 | 1:44 AM Lucas4560 says:

Ill try for it...

Nov. 15, 2007 | 2:33 AM FGIJonC says:

Hm, this is very interesting. I may have to take part in this, because just being in a comic book in general would be awesome. Even if for a page.

Nov. 15, 2007 | 6:14 AM squeakytoad says:

So how are things coming along with the vampire comic? Haven't heard from you in a few weeks.

Nov. 15, 2007 | 10:10 PM AlmightyHans responds:

yeah! why don't you get online you bastard! :P i was only away last weekend we really REALLY need to talk.

Nov. 15, 2007 | 11:07 AM Sidorio says:

I'm slightly confused.

Whilst I'd like to try, I'm not sure if I'm supposed to try and audition first or whatever. Or if I send you a random page of work and you decide to put it on or not. Also, I take it this won't be a comic of the usual type. Will each page be a sort of random self contained story?

Nov. 15, 2007 | 10:14 PM AlmightyHans responds:

yes, each page is a random self contained story. This is just an initial project a fun collaboration to put together to start my idea for the future of this comic book industry. When this is settled I'm going to make a new post of the first season of wht i plan to do with ODD Comics.

no i am not going to decide to put on random pages, i will choose out of everyone who joins who will be on it or not. I will announce whose in and whose out once it's decided to have no confusions. Stealing or just randomly placing anything will defy the purpose of my goal with ODD Comics.

Nov. 15, 2007 | 11:30 AM lysgaard says:

I live in Norway.
can I still enter, and get a copy if I make it to the comic book?

Nov. 15, 2007 | 10:14 PM AlmightyHans responds:

yes

Nov. 15, 2007 | 1:38 PM TheThingy5 says:

haha, i always wanted to set up my own publishing company but then i found NG i forgot about the 3 year idea...
So i am really interested in this, though i have no idea's at the moment i'd love to join! :D

Nov. 15, 2007 | 10:14 PM AlmightyHans responds:

well go ahead and think up a storm of ideas, the chance has come!

Nov. 15, 2007 | 4:35 PM David says:

I would love to partake in the creation of a comic.

Nov. 15, 2007 | 10:15 PM AlmightyHans responds:

awsome

Nov. 16, 2007 | 2:42 AM Sidorio says:

So each page features different characters and stuff?
Sounds cool.

Nov. 16, 2007 | 7:12 PM AlmightyHans responds:

each page belongs to an aartist where they can make any one page comic sequence that they want.

Nov. 16, 2007 | 9:01 AM jakobhummelen says:

Ok, so I already decided that I want to buy one of these comics, I live in Holland. How is that gonna work? IBAN/BIC transfer?? (A)

Nov. 16, 2007 | 7:22 PM AlmightyHans responds:

I'll have a shopping list on my site with the comics, It'll be paypal based, but i'll recieve the info when you purchased and send a copy to that adress.

Nov. 16, 2007 | 10:34 PM SirSeraphdeFallen says:

Sounds like a pretty sweet idea. i will join if i can think of a one pager. i'll pm you with information when i get it.

i hope this turns out good for everyone. it will be interesting to see if anyone has the potential to make a decent comic.

Nov. 19, 2007 | 10:49 PM AlmightyHans responds:

I'm sure a lot will.

Nov. 17, 2007 | 4:04 AM Twist-Chao06 says:

Im gonna Join this :3 Ill send you an email soon

Nov. 19, 2007 | 10:49 PM AlmightyHans responds:

awsome

Nov. 17, 2007 | 6:15 AM lysgaard says:

"-example illustrated artwork (preferably not animated)"

..so we're supposed to mail you all the info and stuff before the strip is finished?

Nov. 17, 2007 | 12:49 PM AlmightyHans responds:

what i meant was if you want to send me some sample work to display your skill I'd prefer if it was just drawings and not animated stuff, animation style changes slightly due to the process of making them move.

Nov. 17, 2007 | 3:32 PM PinkSkull says:

I emailed you a couple of days ago. I included samples of my work, and it was before you updated thet you needed samples of our work^^. I'm still waiting for a reply, on the mean, i'm thinking of what my comic page could be about in case you say it is ok. Btw, that comic portal idea sounds awesome, i'll upload something for sure when it is done :)
-luck

Nov. 19, 2007 | 10:48 PM AlmightyHans responds:

i'm not sure if i remembered seeing your email... sry :S i check them minute-ly

Nov. 18, 2007 | 3:52 AM The-Yokai says:

Sounds awesome! I'm totally gonna apply. Even if I don't get in, I'll buy a copy when it's done! Sounds like just the way to publicize my stunning skills :P

Nov. 18, 2007 | 9:07 AM kitsunekage says:

I am so doing this!

Nov. 18, 2007 | 9:15 AM EdibleCastle says:

Hi, hows it going? Just wondering, will you be sharing your profits with the actual authors of the book?

Nov. 18, 2007 | 7:28 PM AlmightyHans responds:

well not for the collab, the profits aren't even going to me they're going into ODD Comics. The money will be used to print more comics. However on my site, the winner who get's their issue will probably get 40% of the profits the other 60% will go (again for printing more comics). I'm not really starting this business to make money for myself, I'm starting it to make a money cycle and create a constant flow of printing comics to give talent out there a chance to havetheir own comic book issues charge free.

Nov. 18, 2007 | 11:48 PM ZekeySpaceyLizard says:

mrat keeps pokin' me
hi

Nov. 19, 2007 | 4:17 PM AlmightyHans responds:

Holy crap, hi. You're awsome...

Nov. 19, 2007 | 8:46 PM irrelivent says:

Who is going to do the cover? I call dibs. Lol. :)

Nov. 19, 2007 | 10:46 PM AlmightyHans responds:

i actually really like your style and would like to see how you do drawing static images rather than animated. please contact me,

and no, the cover has not yet been decided how to be made... :P

Nov. 20, 2007 | 5:40 PM PinkSkull says:

D: You didnt recieve my email?! I sent it ages ago!
Oh well, I'll just send you another one, I already came up with some ideas so I'll send them to you instead of my old comics samples: I wanted to make sure if you were ok with my style tho... since I always draw a lot of small squares tight together^^.
One last question:
Can everybody just send you their comic and you'll just pick the best, or you'll choose who'll make something for the collab?

Nov. 20, 2007 | 7:49 PM AlmightyHans responds:

i;ll be choosing who will make somthing for the collab. however my site is nearly complete with a comic portal where people can submit stuff and be voted, winner get's there own full issue printed of that one page comic idea they submitted.

Nov. 21, 2007 | 5:42 PM Krinkels says:

This kind of stuff always turns out super awesome. I can't wait to see the results.

Nov. 21, 2007 | 7:44 PM darkshado222 says:

I'm probably too late, but can i take a shot at it?

Nov. 21, 2007 | 11:29 PM PinkSkull says:

It seems fair that you'll choose who's in. I sent you a pm, since you didnt received my first e-mail, please reply.
Also, that comic portal sounds awesome, and seems a great opportunity, i'll make sure Labyrinth participates ;).
-thanks and good luck.

Nov. 22, 2007 | 5:52 PM lysgaard says:

Mailed ya!

Nov. 23, 2007 | 6:28 PM TehSlapHappy says:

Whens the deadline for the collab?

Nov. 24, 2007 | 2:35 PM AlmightyHans responds:

there's no definite deadline, but let's say around early april or so, i want to give artists time to work on their peice.

Nov. 23, 2007 | 6:29 PM TehSlapHappy says:

Also, do you want us to send you info by mail?

Nov. 24, 2007 | 2:36 PM AlmightyHans responds:

either way you can. as long as it maintain's its size of 6.625x10.25 inches

Nov. 24, 2007 | 4:15 PM TehSlapHappy says:

Ok, two final questions, are you gonna send us the 6.625x10.25 paper and do you want to us to send drawn work, of web comic work?

Nov. 27, 2007 | 5:45 AM AlmightyHans responds:

no you'll have to get it to me in the size specified by mail or computer. the type of paper you use could even be part of the style o your page.

Nov. 29, 2007 | 11:59 AM Eddieleipold says:
